CFAS ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES 2023/2024
During the 2023/2024 academic year, the Centre for Ageing Studies rolled out 4 major academic programmes namely; MA Counselling program, MA in Ageing Studies, MPhil in Ageing Studies and PhD in Ageing Studies for admissions .
MA Counselling Program
This is an interdisciplinary programme aimed at preparing students for a career in professional counselling with the ability to serve diverse populations. Through classroom learning, practicum, and research, students will be equipped to identify patterns of behaviours and provide therapeutic plans for a variety of clients from varied background. It courses entails Developmental Models of Personal Growth, Theories & Evidence-Based Practise in Counselling, Suicidality and Suicide Prevention, Community Advocacy, Rehabilitation Counselling, Marital and Family Counselling, Crisis & Trauma Counselling, Addiction Counselling, Pastoral Counselling, Counselling Children & Adolescents, Counselling for Persons with Disabilities, Career Counselling.
Ageing Studies programs (MA, MPhil, PhD)
These programs are carefully designed to help students learn everything they need to know about dealing with the challenges of an aging population. They focus on both theory and practical skills so that when students complete, they can make positive changes in the field of aging studies. By joining these programs, students get to learn from experienced professionals and get hands-on experience through internships and research projects. The Master of Arts (MA), Master of Philosophy (MPhil), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Aging Studies cover all aspects of aging, like social issues, psychology, and health. This prepares graduates for various jobs in healthcare, social work, policymaking, and more.

PhD: Ethics in Ageing Research and Practice; Theories of Ageing from an Interdisciplinary Perspective; Social Aspects of Ageing; Ageing, the Brain and Behaviour; Gerotechnologies; Ageing and Spirituality; Geriatric Assessment Methods
