CFAS 10TH ANNIVERSARY LAUNCH

CFAS marked its 10th anniversary on 10th April 2026 at ISSER, University of Ghana, under the theme "Ageing Societies, Shared Futures: Ghana at a Demographic Crossroad." The event brought together university leadership, faith leaders, students, and community stakeholders to reflect on the Centre's growth and chart its future direction.

Founded by Prof. C. Charles Mate-Kole as a one-man operation, CFAS has grown under current director Rev. Prof. Joseph Osafo Adu into a full research and graduate training institution. Speakers included Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, who praised the Centre's graduate programmes, and Provost Prof. Joseph Awetori Yaro, who called for age-friendly urban planning and urged a shift from viewing older adults as dependents to recognising them as holders of wisdom and social capital. Prof. Mate-Kole reflected candidly on the early struggles of building the Centre from scratch.

A joint ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by Prof. Osafo Adu, Prof. Mate-Kole, and Chief Patron Mr. Charles Amo Tobin, symbolised continuity between the Centre's past and future. The event also drew financial pledges of support, including from the Church of Pentecost, Madina Area.

Overall, the celebration honoured a decade of growth from a single-researcher initiative to an established institution, while affirming strong stakeholder goodwill and a clear push toward proactive, dignity-centred policy as Ghana confronts its demographic shift.
